- Cotton Mills at Lanark.

- In the course of 6 years Mr Dale of this place has raised (?)
- a village on the banks of the Clyde, containing 2,000 persons &
- has erected 5 (sic)Cotton mills - each of which contains 6,000 spindles.
- The various provisions which he has made for the health of
- the children employed by him is highly praiseworthy -
- they have every day some hours allotted for exercise in the
- fields; & their looks bespeak of health and vigour - Their hours
- of relaxation are enjoyed in succession. Their apartments
- are likewise clean & well aired, & 10 schoolmasters are
- employed in their tuition.
